Rain Tunes
It's been raining a lot the past few days and the rain got me in a mood. Before you all get anxious, it's not a bad mood...it's just a rain mood. Whenever it's starts to rain outside, there are certain types of songs that need to be played to fit the vibe of the environment.
For today's post, I want to take my audience, you all, on an imaginary journey.
Here are two scenarios:
#1: Imagine your driving on a long road trip and it starts to rain-not thundering rain, just nice, chill rain.
#2: Imagine you're at home or in a nice cabin, and it's raining outside. You're staring out the window, coffee mug in hand, taking a few sips of water and you're just thinking.
Imagine what songs would play in your headphones or in your speakers...have you got the imagine yet?
Good.
This is the vibe for today's post.
I want to share with you all some songs I like to listen to when it rains or whenever I am embarking on a long journey.
Let's get into this blog post!
SZA
SZA girl...SZA is a bonafide HIT MAKER! One thing about SZA...she's going to make a song, or be featured in a song, that is a vibe. These tracks that I have listed below definetly pass the rain vibe
Alicia Keys
Mrs. Keys is just such a special talent. When Alicia gets to playing on that piano you just know the track is going to change your life. Now, I'm going to be honest with y'all...almost Alicia Keys entire discography could be put as rain tune; in fact, I could probably just dedicate this entire post to just her music and y'all would just have to understand. Okay? Mrs. Keys might actually be the Queen of rain tunes.
SZA might be the princess.
Dijon
Dijon, as of this post, is a fairly new artist. He's not mainstream. The best way I would describe him and his sound is, "raw." His music, especially "Big Mike's" is unlike anything I've ever heard. "Big Mike's," to me, is a carefully crafted mix of intricate sounds; it's kind of why that song is a masterpiece.
"Nico's Red Truck"...first of all the song starts off real mellow and the first thing you hear Dijon sing is,
"Pouring rain/ It's pouring rain out."
How could I not include this song in this playlist? It's already adding to the mood of this playlist. Out of all the songs that I may mention in this post, "Nico's Red Truck" is always going to be the starter for because it sets the tone for the rest of the drive- at least while it's raining (remember the scenario).
The Cyrus Family
The Cyrus' are simply a talented bunch all together. I have been a huge fan of Miley Cyrus since Hannah Montana- yes, I just showed my age.
But yeah, Miley has grown over the years, and I have been a fan through every era thus far. If you are not a Miley stan...I don't know what to tell you- get into it.
Also, i would like to mention that "Zombie" is not a Miley Cyrus original. She was performing a cover of the song "Zombie" by The Cranberries...but I don't know...
The way Miley just attacked it...I think I prefer her rendition of the song more.
Miley won.
Noah Cyrus, for those of you don't know, Miley's younger sister, is also a wonderful artist. "July" is just one of those songs..."July" played as an instrumental is enough for the "rain" mood; but something about Noah's delivery of the lyrics just takes the song to a whole new level.
Boy Bands & Their Solos
The Jonas Brothers, One Direction, and 5 Seconds of Summers are all really successful groups. Each group also having cherished talent within them. Below are just a few songs that add the ambience of a long drive in the rain.
The Knowles Sisters
Here are a powerful set of sisters, yet again. If you know me, or you have been a member of the AAE community long enough...then you know I love me some Beyonce. I typically wouldn't play Beyonce when it's raining and that's because a lot of her music is upbeat- which I love- but upbeat music really doesn't fit in the "rain" vibe. However, these two songs by Bey are definitely rain appropriate.
On the other hand, we have her baby sister Solange. I just want to say this...Ms. Solange did her thing with 'A Seat at the Table.' My faves (favorites), especially for this "Rain Tunes" playlist are:
"Cranes in the Sky," "Don't You Wait," "Don't Touch My Hair"
These three tracks embody the purpose of this playlist. I don't know how to explain it, there is a unique feeling you get when you play these songs by Solange- with or without rain; but when it's pouring outside, these songs hit even more.
Ray J's "One Wish"
When I think rain I can't not bring up Ray J. "One Wish" was just THAT SONG. You couldn't tell a thing.
Y'all see the way that man was singing in the rain?!?! That's exactly how I sing "One Wish" in the car or in the shower. In the shower, this tracks is more intense because you can actually feel water pouring on you.
Bryson Tiller
Okay, let's not lie to ourselves...Bryson Tiller really came in hot with 'TRAPSOUL.' To be frank with you all, that's really the only BT album you need on a rainy day. 'TRAPSOUL' is a NO SKIP album and it doesn't matter how many times you play it, the album is GREAT EVERY SINGLE TIME!
The Smith Siblings
Jaden and Willow Smith come from two legendary parents, so it's not a shocker to me that they are also talented individuals.
The Queens
I want to take the time to give these wonderful women their flowers and to thank them for giving the people so much beautiful work over the years.
Please know that I am not reducing your work/art to simply rain music. Each you have a special place in heart. The songs listed below are just the songs I felt would go really well while it's pouring rain outside.
The Girls
Okay so, the new girls, the up and coming girls are really doing their thing too! Let's take a look at some of the rain tunes by some of the grwols
DISCLAIMER: Some the artists listed below are not βnew-new.β
The Men are doing the thing as well!
I love driving down the road to nice, smooth R&B number and the men for sure know how to give me what I want to hear at that time as well. Here are few numbers from the men as well.
Movie/TV Show hits
These are songs that I got put onto by watching television. I felt that these songs fit the asthetic of this playlist.
I also came across a few of these songs scrolling on social media.
Gospel
Church music is easily one of the best genre's of music to listen to PERIOD. If you ever want to breeze through a storm, put on some gospel music and watch how your life changes.
Gospel tracks are very uplifting especially if the storm is getting worse. Just play some gospel.
